(Horror) A hot night in my town - Short Story Written by Richard Jr Ocaya
‘Yo
bro did I tell you of the night where I slept with my windows open?’ I asked my
brother.
‘No.
And why the fuck would you do that?’ he asked.
‘Because
it was hot as hell, even you felt that heat. Trust me you want to hear this
story, but promise me that you won’t tell mama; it will drive her nuts.’
‘Hmm,’
he muttered. Whenever he did that it was either he was scared or really
interested in what I was about to tell him. 3 years older than me but I was
much more mature and braver than he was. Our relationship made me realize age
really is a number.
‘I
know you won’t believe me but I’ll say it anyway. Last Monday night was the
night I slept with my windows open. Well only the top one was open. I obviously
didn’t sleep with any blankets and I wore only shorts. Even after doing that I
could hardly sleep. I was fidgeting and half awake. When I finally managed to
be comfortable enough to sleep, I am not sure what the time was because as you
know I don’t have a phone to check. Anyway, when I managed to be comfortable
enough to sleep and the heat was cooling down, I was woken up by a gentle knock
from outside the window. It went tap, tap, tap. I could not see what it
was because the curtain was covering it. If I can tell you how my heart sank
you won’t even be able to imagine it.
‘I
raised my sweaty head which quickly became cold. The sweat that was soaked into
my bed sheets became so cold I wanted to wear a jacket and cover myself with a
blanket.
‘I
forced myself to calm down because the knocking had stopped and I chose to
believe it was the bats that live in our attic and come out at night. The heat
started come back. I laid my head back to rest and the knocking came again from
outside. Tap, tap, tap. It was so gentle but the way it made me feel so
terrified bro.... I can’t! The knock was the exact same pitch and tempo as the
first knocking. I got off my bed, ran for a blanket and returned to bed. I sat
in silence looking at the window which I was now to scared to close, but I had
to.
‘Tap,
tap, tap. I decided to be courageous so I ran out my bed, looking away from
the window, reached for the window handle and guess what.’
‘What,’
my brother asked.
‘A
hand held my wrist. It was so cold I felt crazy to believe I was struggling to
sleep because of the heat. My body froze in shock. I pulled my hand back
violently and looked out. When I looked out, I saw such a beautiful goddess
bro. Neuro-melanated queen bro. Her eyes were so beautiful. It was like looking
up at a starry night sky bro. She looked my age or maybe a year younger at 18.
I’m not sure here age but what I’m trying to say is that cherry eo ke stocko
dawg. She smiled at me when I locked eyes with her. I then noticed her k9’s
both upper and below were quite long and sharp and extremely white. She wasted
no time and asked, “Can I come in, I am hungry.”
‘Obviously,
you know me, I don’t think with my dick.’
‘You
said no? Ai, you… I have always told you that you are an idiot,’ my brother
said.
‘Whatever,
I said no and she said is this how you to treat women?’
‘I
said that I don’t know you and I don’t like your vibes. Please leave the
property before I call my family. And like that she left.’
‘Yoh
bruh,’ he said shaking his head.
‘What?’
I asked.
‘Gwab’s
will be the end of you’.
‘Man
just shut up and listen I am still not done. As soon as she left, I closed the
window and immediately it became hot again. I still don’t understand how. I
grabbed my laptop and searched for what I just encountered. Apparently, many
novels and movies have been created around such occurrences and are listed as
fiction.’
‘What
did it say?’ He asked.
‘It
said I came across a vampire.’
‘Yeah
dummy she was gonna suck you dry.’
…
‘Anyway,
I soon realized that reality is stranger than fiction. How else would the
creators create such things from their mind if they had not experienced such
things in their reality. It’s like telling a child to draw something it has
never seen before; it’s impossible because it needs reference.’
‘Just
don’t leave the windows open next time’ he said, ‘Did you see that four series
come in?’ He asked changing the topic. He loves cars.
‘Oh
that one,’ I asked. It was red and parked under the shade. The windows were tinted
I couldn’t see within. I looked at the car and it had a familiar vibe to it.
Goosebumps,
the wind no longer felt warm but slightly chilly. The passenger lowered the window
and looked directly at me and I immediately recognized who it was. It was the
vampire. She smiled, rolled up the window and the car drove away.
